When you arrive at Solas Orthodontics for your initial consultation appointment – which will take no more than one hour – we will welcome you to the practice and introduce you to orthodontist, Dr Daniel O’Connor. He will explain what’s going to happen during the appointment and ask you to fill in a medical history questionnaire in the waiting area, where you can help yourself to a coffee.
Dr O’Connor will then take you to the treatment area to carry out a 30-minute examination of your teeth, including full photographs, X-rays, measurements and general dental health.
After this initial exam, he will discuss the results with you in the private consultation room. He will talk you through what can be done to improve your teeth, how long treatment will take and how much it will cost. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions about treatment and address any concerns. He will offer advice on the range of treatments on offer, such as clear removable braces or fixed appliances, and give you a printed copy of the treatment plan to help you decide whether to go ahead with treatment.
Once you start treatment and the time comes to have your appliance fitted, Dr O’Connor will offer reassurance and clearly explain what’s involved at each stage of the treatment process. He will also show you how to clean and look after your appliance and maintain good oral hygiene.
To maintain your new smile, we will also give you upper and lower removable retainers to stop your teeth moving back to their original position, and schedule a review appointment for a year later.
